Jin Shin Jyutsu (仁神術) is a Japanese manual practice method codified by Master Jiro Murai in 1942. This practice uses specific, non-invasive hand placements to harmonise the body’s natural energy flows—Ki Eki (vital nerve energy) and Tai Eki (body fluids)—restoring balance andsupporting overall well-being.
It focuses on addressing the root causes of imbalance rather than merely alleviating symptoms. In doing so, it helps relieve fatigue, stress, and disruptions arising from mental, emotional, and physical factors.
Jin Shin Jyutsu induces the Ki Eki to restore balance in the 12 Tai Eki circulation, addressing disruptions in one’s own body or others. Ki Eki represents the body’s inherited, vital energies that flow invisibly throughout the system, while Tai Eki refers to the post-natal body fluids generated from food and drink that also circulate through the body, supporting its natural functions.
The practice works by redirecting and revitalising these energetic pathways through sequenced hand placements, encouraging the body’s natural ability to restore and maintain optimal functioning.

Master Jiro Murai 1886-1960
Jiro Murai was born in 1886 in Daishoji village, Ishikawa prefecture, Japan. He was a dedicated researcher who devoted his life to developing a hands-on practice aimed at achieving and maintaining balance, well-being, and optimal functioning throughout the body. His method focused on harmonising all bodily systems to work smoothly and ediciently, free from disruptions or imbalances that could lead to illness or discomfort.
In 1912, Murai faced a pivotal moment when his health deteriorated significantly due to his lifestyle. Seeking healing, he retreated to the mountains, away from the distractions and comforts of daily life.
There, inspired by traditional practices, he began fasting and practicing sitting Zen meditation, focusing on his breath and incorporating various hand gestures known as mudras.
To the surprise of many, including himself, his condition improved dramatically. His strength was restored, and he was able to walk again. From that moment on, he dedicated his life to understanding and unravelling the phenomenon he had experienced.
His research, experiences, and discoveries laid the foundation for methods used to relieve pain and disease, ultimately evolving into the healing art we now know as Jin Shin Jyutsu.
About Maria
Maria Miniello was introduced to Jin Shin Jyutsu in 1998 and immediately formed a profound connection with the Art.
With a background in couture and design—and an intuitive understanding of the relationship between the body and its overlying fabric—Maria brings a unique perspective to Jin Shin Jyutsu, recognising how underlying energetic circulations shape what appears on the surface.
After years of study and teaching self-help materials across Australia and internationally, Maria joined the International Jin Shin Jyutsu faculty in 2020 and deepened her research into the works of Master Jiro Murai. Since 2023, she has taught both independently and in collaboration with others, integrating primary source materials with her own insights to present the Art in an authentic and innovative way for a new generation.
Maria believes that “Art is inherently innovative and evolutionary, and our perspective on the potential for change evolves to be as fluid as our approach to it.” Her work reflects a living Art—unfolding, deepening, and continually revealing new layers of understanding.
